Bringing up a Muslim child in a non-Muslim society can always be quite challenging for a parent. Often as fathers, we may not be able to connect with our children because our fathers did not 'connect' with us. Some of us were never hugged or befriended by our fathers and were often not spoken to regarding our daily life. Abu Usamah now asks us, 'how often do you praise your kids? How often do you recognise the good they do and reward them for their achievements? We complain about their bad grades yet how much did we help them in their studies? In this insightful lecture, Abu Usamah brings forth many examples from the life of the prophet - sallallahu alayhe wa sallam - showing his kindness, softness and consideration towards the youth.
