The maqasidic tafsir derives the higher aims of the Quranic script as a means to recover the bond between the Muslims of today and the Quran. We must understand that each verse and chapter of the Quran has an aim, purpose, objective, goal, and wisdom which we call maqsid. Skilled scholars of tafsir derive comprehensive meanings of the higher aims (maqasid) of the hundred and fourteen chapters of the Quran and execute progressive, functional action plans. Only through such reference and implementation of knowledge of the Quran and Sunnah can the Muslim Ummah gradually realize improvement of iman, a return to dignity and inheritance of leadership by the will of Allah. Tafsir is the most important topic of the sciences of Quranic study. It is of the most exceptional and rewarding services to explain the book of Allah hoping for guidance and I ask Allah to aid me to achieve this objective. The goal of this tafsir is to derive the higher aim of all one hundred and fourteen chapters in the Quran. I may have surprised some readers with the title I chose for this work. There is some negative association with the maqasidic approach to exegesis of Quran due to earlier efforts by scholars who were not firmly grounded in knowledge and who deviated from the method of the Salaf as-Salihin. Therefore, part one of this introductory volume will contextualize the meaning of the maqasidic (higher aim-based) trend of tafsir, its evolution and status among the scholars of tafsir. Part two will discuss the role of deriving maqasid in Islamic and Quranic sciences, and part three will outline the method of applying maqasidic exegesis to the Quran. If Allah wills, this overview of the subject of maqasidic tafsir will prepare the reader for study of the higher aims of each chapter of the Quran in the subsequent volumes.
